Antonia: The Fortress Jerusalem Forgot

How does history simply “lose” one of the great architectural achievements of the ancient world?  And why have the drawings of contemporary biblical archaeologists repeatedly represented Antonia as a relatively modest, annex-sized building positioned at the northwest corner of the Haram es Sharif, commonly known as the “Temple Mount?”
